Biography for Mariano Vicente

Briefly about me

I'm Mariano Vicente, I'm an argentinian student. I'm a very curious person and I enjoy programming and experimenting with new stuff. I work in the industry since 2008.

I study programming, because i considere myself a crafter. I enjoy build, anything, and i think make software, is the most flexible way to build anithing.

About my study

Right now, I'm studying Software Development at Universidad Nacional de Quilmes (UNQ), in fact I'm just starting here because I've switched form Universidad Tecnologica Nacional because I prefer the focus in development that I found in UNQ.

I've done several courses (web design, web master ...) before  I took the desition to start a full career.

My interests

I like lot of differents kinds of things, I love automatizing normal processing and it's very challenging when I can mix a little of electronics and programming. I've been doing some experiments with Arduino and reading a lot of cool stuff and I get very entusiasmate with it.

I'm also interested in user interfaces, I listened Igor's talk in Smalltalk Puerto Madryn about Athens and I get particular curiuos about it, it seems very powerfull and it would be very nice to make all that work easy to understand and (of course) use in concret applications.

I'm allways interested in learning new stuff and have fun in the process.

My non-Smalltalk experiences so far

I've been working for 6 so far. I have developed using a lot of differents tecnologies like Java, Javascript (majority), Php, Python, Scala, IOs and differents platforms also.

I'm actually programming in Scala + Javascript, in my current work we develop a gamification plataform in the social networks. I always consider a game options.

My Smalltalk experiences so far

I'm a begginer in Smalltalk, I took a subject where we used Smalltalk (Pharo) in the Univeristy and I really enjoy it. It was too much easier comparated with other technologies. I also went to Smalltalk's conference in Argentina and started to play with Athens after that.

Why am I interested in Smalltalk?

I want to go deep in my knowledge about Smalltalk because it's seems to be a very powerfull lenguage, very simple to use and to understand. I love the fact that my image it's alive (so different from others!), I also enjoy a lot Object Oriented programming... and wich is a better place for oop than in Smalltalk?. Also i very interested in the interactive programing, and think the pharo is the best place to do that.

Will I stay with Smalltalk after the project is finished?

Definetly
